Johnson Valley Trails are in Danger

Trails and Land UseWe normally try to post only XJ related topics but this is very important for all those who wheel in general. There is a real possibility that we will lose our favorite Johnson Valley trails in California. The government is considering expanding the 29 Palms Marine base by claiming most of Johnson Valley.

As part of the effort to fight this closure, there is going to be an online rally at Pirate4x4.com to give people the chance to show that they use the area, talk about how we use it, how often we use it, and how important it is to us. The rally will be on Wed, March 12th from 2-6 pm PST. Please post up something during the rally to add to the numbers of people showing support. Here is a link to more detailed info about the rally:

Rest in Peace - Kent "Lion" Nelson

Yesterday, we received news of a great loss in the XJ Community. Kent "Lion" Nelson passed away. He was a former Chicagoan; a hardcore Cubs fan; member of NAXJA, Rough Wheelers 4x4 club, and SoCalXJ; and a very happy wheeler. Rest in peace Lion

Team Garry Hall Enters XJ for King of the Hammers

Team Garry Hall has entered an XJ for the King of the Hammers race for 2008. The XJ labeled as Blue 52 is owned and will be driven by Richard "GoatMan" Gauthier. His co-pilot and navigator is Paul Sinclair. KOH is the first race of its kind. The event will take place on February 22, 2008, and is a non-spectator event. The event will part rock race, and part desert race. Race teams will start at 30 second intervals from Means Dry Lake bed, and will navigate through the desert on a set race course to their first rock course. As of today, the official course has not been released, and is not going to be released until race week. What we do know is there will be approximately 50-60 miles of desert racing, and approximately 7 Johnson Valley trails (aka: Hammer Trails - Sledgehammer, Jackhammer, Wrecking Ball, etc) to make up the course. More info about the XJ (#52) is posted at NAXJA.org

More info and live race coverage is available at Pirate4x4.com.

UPDATE!
Goatman and Paul have physically finished in 6th place but for actual position based on time, it's currently looking like 7th place.

Congratulations!!!

 XJDB.com Moved!

XJDB.comXJDB.com has moved to a new host and is also under new ownership and management! What does this mean?
  • The Photo Gallery stays but will be updated and categorized.
  • We will be adding lots of new functionality such as Tech Articles, Products Database, Manufacturer and Vendor links, FAQs, etc.
  • To reduce spammer links, we are requiring that all areas will require you to be a registered member in order to publish comments, pictures, articles, etc.
This is just a small list of things to do. Please be patient while we work out the kinks and relocation issues. Thanks! Josh XJDB.com
