Petition to Save Johnson Valley
From an email:
As many of you know, Johnson Valley OHV is being seriously considered by the US Marine Corps as their new training area. The public scoping meetings and studies have been completed. The Public Comment period ends on January 31st, 2009.
Five of the options that were offered took all or a portion of Johnson Valley , the sixth was to do nothing at all (which is unlikely)
It is imperative that you read and sign, including your email and mailing addresses. Upon the end of the comment period, this petition will be submitted initially to the Marines, and then we will forward the signatures and addresses to each local legislator.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS LINK TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW WITH AN INTEREST IN SAVING OUR PUBLIC LANDS.

PFJV Hosts Meeting with JV businesses and Military Reps
Jan 12, 2009
Partnership For Johnson Valley hosts meeting with local businesses and Military representatives from Twentynine Palms
What was to be a routine meeting to discuss the proposed expansion of the Twentynine Palms MCAGCC chaired by Harry Baker turned into an emotional discussion about the economic impacts the military's proposed expansion would have in Lucerne, Johnson, Yucca Valley and surrounding communities if tourism was removed from the region.
"This is a Route 66 scenario" said one of the business owners concerned about local impacts on tourism that could turn our communities into ghost towns.
Ed Waldheim, President of the California Trail Users Coalition and a Director of the Partnership, was visibly shaken and genuinely concerned that the emotion of these local retailers could never be channeled through typical scoping methods. Range Expansion Program Manager Joe Ross, assured us he would relay this overwhelming concern demonstrated by local business owners to the upper military brass and that every comment carries weight. He noted that socioeconomics will be one of many important items to be fully analyzed in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

Johnson Valley Trails are in Danger
We normally try to post only XJ related topics but this is very important for all those who wheel in general. There is a real possibility that we will lose our favorite Johnson Valley trails in California. The government is considering expanding the 29 Palms Marine base by claiming most of Johnson Valley.
As part of the effort to fight this closure, there is going to be an online rally at Pirate4x4.com to give people the chance to show that they use the area, talk about how we use it, how often we use it, and how important it is to us. The rally will be on Wed, March 12th from 2-6 pm PST. Please post up something during the rally to add to the numbers of people showing support. Here is a link to more detailed info about the rally:
